August 12, 2022 is a day that Avelo Airlines will never forget. Less than a year-and-a-half after its first flight, the airline celebrated flying its one millionth customer.
One million customers
In 2021, Avelo Airlines became the first new airline in more than a decade to take flight in the United States. Today, just 16 months later, the airline flew its one millionth customer onboard flight 165 from the Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) to Boise (BOI). Avelo Founder, Chairman, and CEO Andrew Levy was onboard the flight and surprised all the passengers with a free roundtrip ticket to anywhere the airline flies.
In Burbank, Avelo held a small celebration at the gate.

Avelo sets itself apart from other airlines with its fares and travel options. The airline “was founded with a vision to help its Customers save money and time.” Customers are offered low fares and can make changes or cancel tickets without extra fees. Avelo also offers an a-la-carte style of booking, giving customers the options to choose what they value, like priority boarding, checked bags, carry-on bags, and even bringing pets inside the cabin.

The Avelo Experience
Avelo has a fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft, which offer more space and comfort than the regional jets that have historically served the small airports that Avelo serves. Customers who wish to choose their seat at the time of booking are given several options, including seats with extra legroom, and prereserved aisle and window seats. One third of the seats on all Avelo aircraft offer extra legroom.
Avelo Airlines now serves 30 cities across the United States and has focused on a new market, serving underserved routes to primarily underserved communities. At least one airport on every Avelo route is a “small hometown airport”, and every flight is nonstop. This is meant to provide Customers with a faster and seamless travel experience. Avelo boasts a year-to-date cancellation rate of 1% and a rate of only .09 mishandled bags per 100 bags.
