MIRACLE: As Man Walks Out Unhurt After Plane Crashed into Groton Home

A plane crashed into a home on Ring Drive in Groton on Monday. Two people who were in the plane were able to get out safely after the crash. They were taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

One man was in the home when the plane crashed into the roof and officials said he was not hurt.

There were no fatalities or serious injuries, according to police.

About 10:30 p.m. Monday, a twin engine plane crashed into a house on Ring Drive. Somehow, the fuel on board did not catch on fire. The one man in the house walked out just fine.

The two people who were on board the plane were taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, but we are told their injuries are not life-threatening. For the people involved and first responders, this could have been a lot worse.

β€œIt’s not something you want to respond to but there are preparations in place in the event that something like this does happen,” Chief L.J. Fusaro, Groton Police.

We are still waiting for reports about how exactly this happened. If you take a map and draw a line down runway 5 of Groton-New London Airport, then continue it about a mile and a half, you come right to this house.

So the odds are good this plane was either taking off or landing at the airport when this happened. News 8 Chief Meteorologist Gil Simmons says there was light rain and a little bit of wind from the south, which means it is more likely this plane was landing than taking off.Police are urging residents to avoid the area while they investigate.

We are told the Airport Authority was already on scene last night, but it will be up to the NTSB to do an official investigation of what happened.
