American Airlines, the second-busiest carrier at St. Louis Lambert International Airport, will begin seasonal service from St. Louis to Cancun International Airport later this year.
Beginning Dec. 19, 2020, and running through April 3, 2021, the airline will operate Saturday departures from Lambert to Cancun at about 9:20 a.m. and return flights from Cancun to St. Louis at about 4:44 p.m., officials said.
“We’re excited American Airlines has added seasonal service to Cancun,” said Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, director of Lambert. “Cancun is an important leisure destination for many St. Louis travelers, and American Airlines continues to recognize the strength of our region with added service and competitive fares.”
Fort Worth, Texas-based American, whose ticketing operations are in Lambert’s Terminal 1, currently serves five destinations from Lambert, reduced from nine due to the Covid-19 pandemic, according to airport officials. It has nearly a 15% market share of Lambert’s enplaned passengers.
Dallas-based Southwest Airlines is the top carrier at Lambert.
