Frontier Airlines has announced continued aggressive expansion plans as travel demand continues to pick up. Although travel is still down due to COVID-19 the airline has continuously expanded over the past eight months to new, leisure-based destinations. The airline’s latest announcement includes 18 new routes and three new destinations for the airline. These new routes include flights to a new destination in Mexico and an increased presence in the Caribbean.
The airline has stated that 19 new routes will be added. However, they include a route between Orlando and Ontario, Calif., on this list. Although the route is not currently operating, the airline has flown it before, as recently as June 2020.
The Denver-based airline’s flights between Orlando and Wilmington, Del. will mark a return to the nation’s smallest state for the first time since 2015. It will also mean Frontier will be the only carrier serving Delaware regularly.
The airline also announced it would serve three new cities from Oakland, Calif.
“We’re excited to expand our network with these 19 new routes and bring our brand of friendly service and low fares to three great new destinations,” Frontier Senior VP of Commercial Daniel Shurz
Frontier’s new routes include large expansion from Ontario to popular leisure destinations around the country. There is also some intra-California flying included, something that was last attempted by the airline in July 2007, when it flew between San Francisco International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport.
The airline will also add flights between Sacramento, Calif. and Phoenix, Ariz. These flights will operate twice weekly from Feb. 11 until March 11, 2021. From then on, the route will operate four times weekly.
