NIGERIA: Aminu Kano International Airport Set To Re-open April 4

Federal Government has announced dates for re-opening of Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa and Akanu Ibiam International Airport to flight operations

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, made the announcement Yesterday at the joint national briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, in Abuja  fixed April 4, 2021, as the date for the reopening of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) for international flights.

Sirika also announced that Port Harcourt International Airport will be opened on April 15, while the Enugu international airports will be opened for international flights May 3rd, 2021.

He further explained that contrary to belief, MAKIA and other airports closed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country were not reopened like others, due to any motive explaining that government needed to streamline points of entry to enable it check the pandemic.

“The airports were shut down, like others across the world. We closed our airports as that was where the virus came into the country. We reopened some after many considerations with the other stakeholders. There was no ulterior motive for not reopening of the Kano or other airports. There are processes to be followed,” Sirika said.
