Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu runway is said to be opened August 30, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika has said the reconstruction project of the runway of the Akanu Ibiam international airport Enugu is 95 percent complete and will be reopened August 30 for flight operations.
The Minister stated this during an inspection of the runway project said the perimeter fence had been constructed and the airfield lightnings fixed.
He expressed satisfaction with the work done, assuring that other projects embarked on within the airport and the cargo area were on course.
he airport runway project commenced last year as Federal government on November 7, 2019 announced it has mobilized contractor PW to site with completion slated before easter of this year but unfortunately due to the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic the work was halted on March 31, 2020.
However, on June 1, with the announcing of the ease of lockdown, the minister also announced that the contractors handling the runway will be back to site.
The minister on arrival at the airport also held a meeting with the contractor, officials of FAAN and the Enugu State Government. He assured that the new day was achievable looking at the remaining work left to be done.
