All over the world December 7th, is set outside to celebrate Civil Aviation internationally. As the day is been celebrated all over the world today, to some people they do not understand the need of marking this special day in the aviation world.
Well, the day is commemorated to help generate and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation to the social and economic development of countries. The ICAO is an autonomous UN Body accountable for keeping up the safety standards of international aviation.
The day is not a public holiday but marked as a global observance. This day is commemorated to generate worldwide consciousness about the contribution of international civil aviation to social and economic development.
History
The celebration of International Civil Aviation Day was established 1944 and first observed in the year 1994. It was established as part of ICAO’s 50th-anniversary activities. The official recognition of December 7 as International Civil Aviation Day by the UN General Assembly happened in the UN system in 1996.
Why International Civil Aviation Day is observed on December 7 every year
International Civil Aviation Day is observed on December 7 every year because it was on this day in 1994 when the world had observed the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Convention on International Civil Aviation by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
Two years later, the UNGA declared through Assembly Resolution A29-1 that December 7 will be observed as International Civil Aviation Day. Thus, the International Civil Aviation Day is observed on December 7 every year.
International Civil Aviation Day 2020 Theme
According to the culture stating a new theme after every five years, the International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO council has established a special anniversary theme for the 2020 International Civil Aviation Day. Which is: “Advancing Innovation for Global Aviation Development”. The council has decided to keep the same theme until the year 2023.
